Family Music for Babies (Newborn - 16 months)13 week semester (no class Columbus Day)
All babies are born with an aptitude for music, but research shows their aptitude diminishes if it is not nurtured. The best way to nurture your child's musical aptitude is through active music making! By singing and dancing with our children in a variety of styles, we are helping our children reach their full musical potential.

This class offers adults the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting, experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his or her curiosity about music. By singing, dancing, bouncing, and rocking, the child's musical aptitude is being carefully nurtured, laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production, and aural discrimination.

Activities include singing, bouncing songs, rocking songs, dances, finger plays, body awareness games and echoes.

Music Makers: At Home (4 & 5 years)14 week semester
This class nurtures your child’s musical development through songs, tonal and rhythm patterns, stories, movement activities, listening games, and playing instruments.  Music skills such as matching pitch, keeping a beat, playing instruments in a group, and music notation are based on themes taken from natural settings: backyard, woods, meadow and marsh.  Notation games are new to this class - seeing notes and patterns appear written down.  Children will also be learning to write patterns.  The materials packets include a CD, poster and game pieces, notation games, instrument page, and songbook.  (2  packets/semester)

Music Makers: Around the World (5 & 6 years)14 week semester

Children explore the music, dances and stories of different cultures.  As always, the key ingredients are singing, listening, playing instruments, lots of movement, and tonal and rhythm patterns.  Through echoing patterns, the children will build a vocabulary of musical phrases which they can recognize aurally and visually.  This leads to an understanding of musical notation, written on both flash cards and music pages.  At the end of year, the children will be introduced to the keyboard, using the same method they’ll use in future classes!  Children will receive 2 packets throughout the 14 weeks.

Piano Partners - Monday (7+ years)13 week semester (no class Columbus Day)
Learning piano is more fun with a partner! This program is designed to teach 2
children to play the songs they've been hearing, singing, and dancing to throughout the years of early-childhood. An extension of the work done in Music Makers: Around the World, this class follows a very sequential approach to building piano skills and understanding musical notation as set forth in the books, Music Makers: At the Keyboard.
Through singing games, instruments and patterns, children learn to play rhythm patterns, tonal patterns, chords, and melodies to accompany songs on the piano.

Note that the Monday class is only 13 weeks because there is no class on Columbus Day.
