Class Policies

POLICIES IN THE TIME OF COVID - SCHOOL YEAR 2021-2022 Anja Scheidel's Musikgarten and Piano Studio

1.
There will be at least 10 minutes BETWEEN each music class to allow for sanitizing. All piano keys, door knobs, headphones, bathroom surfaces, drums, percussion instruments and other contact areas will be wiped down. Windows will be opened during and/or between classes.

2.
All adults and students ages 2/3 and up wear a mask for the entire class time.

3.
In the bathroom, only paper towels will be available rather than a cloth hand towel.

4.
Students should not attend Musikgarten and/or Piano Class if they have any symptom of illness (runny nose, congestion, chills, cough, sneezing, fever, stomach ache (nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, sore throat, muscle aches, unusual fatigue, headache, loss of taste or smell, shortness of breath or have been exposed and/or tested for Covid-19 or any family member has been exposed to Covid-19. If you or your child has allergies or asthma, please let me know — I understand some of these symptoms could JUST be those 2 things and some allowances can be made.

5.
If schools are closed due to COVID or the city/state closes us down again, classes will go to Zoom. If allowed and if I feel it would be safe, a limited number of private piano lessons may be available INSTEAD — those with no or poor Internet and first year piano students will be offered those slots first. If schools are closed but there is no city/state closing, classes may resume when it is determined to be safe.

6.
Because the Entree Way is too small to allow social distancing, I ask piano students and parents with their small child to try their best for social distancing.

7.
If you have traveled recently and were NOT able to socially distance and wear a mask please do NOT come to a class for 10 days from your return (Especially important if travel was in a Covid hotspot).

8.
In Piano Class, each child will be assigned to one piano/drum for the whole class. All activities will be near/beside/in front of that piano/drum. Child's bag and materilas will be kept beside the instrument. I will be doing everything I can to keep your child and your family safe and healthy. Part of this involves every child and family doing their part to ensure that a safe environment is achieved and maintained through honesty and caution.Thank you for your cooperation.

Classes are called off when the Mankato School District 77 closes due to weather conditions. I'll do my best to make up "snowdays".
I invite new families to visit a class. If you know someone who is interested, they are welcome to email or call me and schedule a visit. You can also let Anja know ahead of time if a family is interested in visiting a class.

About your Child:
Let me know if your child has any special needs, learning differences or allergies.
Let me know if I have no permission to take pictures/videos of your child during class for publicity, promotional and/or educational purposes (including publications, presentations, or broadcast via newspaper, internet or other media sourses).

Payments:
A non-refundable registration/materials fee is due at the time of registration.
Tuition is due on the first day of class.
Talk to Anja if you would like to set up monthly paymnets.
There is 5% additional fee for a monthly paymnet plan.

Making Music enjoyable:
Prepare your child and his/her items the evening before class.
Listen to your CD often.
Find your most practical way to listen often. See instructions to download your CDs onto any apple or android device.
Prepare an instrument basket at home.
Set up self-initiated equipment for you child-where appropriate.
Encourage you child to respond to music interests at will.
Relax and enjoy musical moments together.
Enjoy the music and classes without any expectations of the child's performance.
Do not physically manipulate your child.
Allow you child to respond to the teacher without reservation.
Ask yourself; is the child being disruptive, disrespectful or dangerous? In such case, please remove the child.
Above all, have fun.

Also, note that each child learns and progresses in different speed and ways.
You will notice that there are children who are more careful about sharing their expressions and ideas in class whereas others can't wait to participate actively. Others will act out all the activities learned in class at home but not in class. I am confident that you are aware of the fact that all children develop at their own pace. So, leave your comparisons at the door, and let the music work it's magic.

Thank you,
Anja Scheidel
