Children's lives are increasingly filled with screen time rather than real time with nature, caring adults, the arts, and hands-on work and play. Yet only real relationships, not virtual ones, will inspire and prepare them to protect the Earth and all that lives on it.
Tech Tonic: Towards a New Literacy of Technology (Cordes and Miller) from the Alliance for Childhood

Established in 2001, Snoqualmie Valley Music offers every level of the Musikgarten curriculum, the premier early childhood music and movement program, and has qualified for Musikgarten's Exemplary Program Award since it's inception.

As you consider whether to enroll your child in music classes, please consider these two facts: Research has shown that we are all born with an aptitude for music, but that aptitude diminishes if it is not actively nurtured before the age of nine. Secondly, music and movement activities benefit the child in every way, socially, physically, intellectually, emotionally, etc.

Musikgarten classes are designed to nurture a child’s music aptitude by engaging children and their families in singing and movement activities. These activities help attune the ear, refine the voice, and develop a rhythmic body through which music can be expressed. Weekly attendance at music class is vital, but the most effective nurturing takes place in the home. Your child's musical aptitude is nurtured and home life is enriched as you expand on class activities and integrate them into family routines. As you familiarize yourself with class offerings and learn more about Musikgarten, we look forward to answering your questions and welcoming your family into our program.

Snoqualmie Valley Music offers every level of the Musikgarten curriculum.

Before choosing to teach the Musikgarten curriculum, I researched many of the larger early childhood music and movement programs, talking with program creators, attending training workshops and listening to the family CD's. I ultimately chose the Musikgarten curriculum because:

- Musikgarten is privately owned and operated. Because of this, teacher training, classes, and materials are amazingly affordable. And that benefits all of us.

-When listening to the family CD's, you will hear well known children's songs and folk tunes that have stood the test of time, songs that have the have a rich and timeless quality, whether they be lullabies or silly songs. The music is recorded live with traditional, acoustic instruments.

-Musikgarten classes will sequentially lead your child to music literacy, with the goal being enrollment in the keyboard classes. The keyboard is far and away the best intrument to use when working towards literacy. The curriculum is scientifically based, developmentally appropriate and loads of fun. Most importantly it was created, and continues to be improved and updated, by the premier leaders and minds in the field of early childhood music and movement.

I know your experience in any of the Musikgarten classes you enroll in will be extremly beneificial and enjoyable for your family.

-Kari Cullimore

"I think it's wonderful that many students start out now with holistic, non-performance music classes like Musikgarten-nothing could be healthier educationally than to sing, move, draw, etc. to music, internalizing the elements, before ever sitting at an instrument. So many piano teachers I know have revamped their practice in order to teach such classes, and they have the satisfaction of knowing they are really changing things for the better by starting those kids off with the all-important internal connection to music." -William Westney (www.williamwestney.com)
