Class Descriptions

All babies are born with an aptitude for music. But research shows that their aptitude diminishes if it is not nurtured. The best way to nurture a child's music aptitude is through active music making. By singing and dancing for and with our children in a variety of tonalities, meters and styles we are helping our children reach their full music potential.

This class offers adults the opportunity to play with their babies in a musical setting, experiencing music and movement activities designed to delight the child and awaken his or her curiosity about music. By singing, dancing, bouncing, and rocking, the child's music aptitude is being carefully nurtured, laying the foundation for beat awareness, vocal production, and aural discrimination.

Activities include singing, bouncing songs, rocking songs, dances, finger plays, body awareness games and echoes.  Family materials shown below:

This class is adapted through our variation of activites for children birth to five.  There is lots of movement for those toddlers, while 3-5 year-olds will learn language skills and use their imaginations in fun new ways.  With the babies there are lots of fun, creative activities to help nurture and build their bond with you.

Each program is full of music, movement, imagination, and class time fun. The unique
music compositions on the CDs will enable children to explore walking and jumping, dancing and singing, playing simple instruments and many more concepts which are just right for your little movers and shakers!  Both children and parents will find that after just one class, they’ll look forward to many more! 
 
This book and music will capture your little ones attention with photos of children their own age and colorful illustrations that bring the songs and chants and rhymes to life. Everyone in the family will love the variety of music.

Fall semester: 
Classics like Hickory Dickory Dock and The Eency Weency Spider. Plus new favorites like Fiddle-De-De and Old Jeremiah. You'll hear fast-tempo music as well as calming, slower relaxing music. Family Materials include: Parent Book (48p) and CD with digital code

Classics like Hot Cross Buns and London Bridge, plus time-honored nursery rhymes like Rub-a-dub-dub will excite your imagination. You'll hear fast-tempo music as well as calming, slower relaxing music.

A musical celebration of the four seasons of the year is the theme in this class. The first half of the year focuses on fall and winter.  Movement, singing, and speech lay a foundation for creative development via storytelling, poetry, play, dance, and more. Preschoolers will build on the rhythmic and tonal pattern awareness in music as well as continued exploration of a variety of musical instruments while tapping into the child ’s vivid imagination and building the child ’s growing independence and competencies. Listening skills are also developed through focused listening activities and guessing games with animal picture cards.

Fall semester:  Wind Dancers is the first family set in The Cycle of Seasons material ages 3-5 and offers you a collection of songs, sounds, poetry and stories, plus additional ideas to explore with your child. Family set includes a Parent Book (48p), 2 CDs, 12 Animal Cards in Cloth Bag

Spring Semester:  Sun Catchers is the second family set in The Cycle of Seasons material ages 3-5 and offers you a collection of songs, sounds, poetry and stories, plus additional ideas to explore with your child. This pre-piano class (offered at Texas Amps and Axes School of Music in Prosper) is designed to nurture the emergent independence of the 4 to 6 year old.  Your child will be engaged in activities that establish a solid music-making foundation. This year focuses on your child’s fascination with nature and develops a love of instruments. Your child will be introduced to the sounds of orchestral instruments individually, and then in the context of an ensemble. Such a listening foundation will lead to long-term success with music reading in future classes. 

Activities include lots of singing, chants and rhymes, listening games, patterns to echo, and movement games, all of which nurture the child's musical development while satisfying the child's need to learn in a holistic environment. Children will also be introduced to the piano in fun ways.  There is a maximum of 4 children.

Parents or caretakers are invited to come for the last 5 minutes of the class.
Home materials including music recording, songbook, and manipulatives allow the learning and fun to continue at home!  We will cover one folder for 1/2 of the semester and then the other folder for the second half.

This class is designed for 4-8 year olds and will be taught by Ms. Alice in the Homeschool Academy at Texas Amps and Axes School of Music.   In this class, children explore the music, dances and stories of different cultures. As always, the key ingredients are singing, listening, playing instruments, lots of movement, and tonal and rhythm patterns. Through echoing patterns, the children will build a vocabulary of musical phrases which they can recognize aurally and visually, which leads to an understanding of musical notation. 

Materials include a CD, a map, song pages, and notation games. Children will receive 2 packets throughout the fall session.

Students are introduced to new musical concepts and the performance of pieces at the piano. The story of Beethoven Bear and Mozart Mouse™ sets the stage for music study at the beginning and continues on each subsequent page. Other characters throughout the book serve as a springboard for introducing students to major composers from the four main musical style periods.

New concepts are introduced and carefully reinforced throughout the book. Each page contains a fragment of the story as background for each new concept or new piece of music, as well as practice instructions to read to the student. Many pages also offer helpful hints to the teacher and parents for effective instruction and practice.

The music was written to develop finger dexterity in young children and includes clever lyrics that will appeal to the student's imagination. Accompaniments for the teacher or parent are notated for each piece.

This program is designed to teach the children to play the songs they are hearing, singing, drumming and dancing to.  This class follows a very sequential aural approach to building piano skills and understanding musical notation as set forth in the books, Music Makers: At the Keyboard.

Children will receive a book with notation card games and 2 recordings (CDs or downloads) for their family materials, one for listening and one for practice time.  A parent guide book will also be included.

For Homeschool Academy students, please plan on paying the $65 curriculum fee plus an additional $22 for a supplemental book/CD that will be used first.  This curriculum will be used for the entire school year.

This class has the best of both worlds - the fun learning that takes place with another child and some one-on-one instruction as well.  

The curriculum for this class is either Music Makers at the Keyboard or Music for Little Mozart, both excellent curriculum for beginners at the piano.  As they progress, they may begin using the Piano Pronto series combined with Theory time workbooks.

This private piano instruction will enhance your child's musical skills and add enjoyment, motivation and self-discipline to your child's life.  After initial assessment, we will determine the curriculum best fit for your child's age and level. Daily practice is encouraged for best performance, enjoyment and progression of skills.
