We’ll learn African-American songs, pioneer tunes, and Revolutionary War hits while playing piano, fife, drums, and hammered dulcimer.
American Girl doll Felicity will help us understand what life was like during the Revolutionary War.
We’ll even make some of our own snacks, play games like marbles, create corn husk people, shoot arrows, and learn some of the most important songs from that era, including a wild one called “Jargon” by William Billings.

American Girl dolls Kirsten and Josefina help us imagine life in the newly doubled United States.
From piano to Appalachian dulcimer, fiddle, banjolele, fife, hammered dulcimer, and early flutes, music crosses into the West. American Girl doll Addy introduces us to the Civil War and the struggle for slaves’ freedom. Percussion instruments will bring these songs to life. Roar into the 1920s when dancing, baseball, movies, and radio were all the craze!
We’ll strum the ukulele, banjolele, bass, and Didley bow; blow the trumpet, trombone, clarinet, and saxophone, and pound the piano.
But hold on tight, because the Great Depression follows and will test our resourcefulness! American Girl doll Kit made it through and we will, too.
We’ll jump rope, have an epic “Kick the Can” game, and join a “jug band” with homemade instruments like washtub bass, washboard, spoons, bones, and jugs.

Experience the sounds of Bluegrass, Soul, Jazz, the early beginnings of Rock & Roll, and the songs of the last two states to join the Union: Alaska and Hawaii.
American Girl doll Molly will make an appearance, demonstrating life during World War 2.
Then, we’ll visit the drive-in theater, the soda fountain, and the sock hop!

Time to jam, move, and sing with Folk, Pop, Disco, and Rock & Roll tunes.
Over four days, we’ll explore these themes: You can make a difference (rattle) - social change and civil rights; “What a Wonderful World” - the moon landing, freedom, and always hope; Enjoy life - Disco Party; and finally, Into the future - the arrival of computers and the Internet.

Let's celebrate the 250 year birthday of the United States by learning important songs from its history. We will be working on sight reading, using lead sheets, and understanding chords. The "beloved" Mystery Song from piano class will make an appearance! Plus snacks, stories, and activities from a different time period each day.
Ukulele - Beginning/Intermediate players. You do NOT need Piano training. You may use a Studio Ukulele if you do not have one. Please request that when registering.
Piano - Students who have completed at least 2 years of instruction. (If taking piano in my Studio, students who have completed Piano 2 and have not completed Grade 3 may be considered.) You do NOT need to do the ukulele but you are welcome to try it. Every song will have a Piano and a Ukulele score and we'll jam together.
Grade 3 (completed) through Teens. Former Piano Students especially encouraged to join--brush up your skills!

We will be singing, dancing, drumming, playing musical games and playing the piano together. Snacks are included.
Materials include workbook and Digital Download of the songs included in class. MusicLink Scholarship would deduct the Materials Fee only.
