Toddlers learn through sound exploration and movement in this curriculum. They sing, chant, move, dance, listen and play simple instruments – a full mix that allows them to be active, which is how a toddler learns.

Class activities will stimulate the musical interaction between the adult caregiver and the toddler on many different levels. Direction will be given to channel the toddler's energy productively, facilitate expression of feelings, assist in improving memory through repetition, and develop further musical aptitude and focused listening.

Pre-piano: Cycle of Seasons Fall 2024 time TBD (3 - 5 years)

Required: Sonor soprano Glockenspiel (Kindermusik)

The Cycle of Seasons, a pre-piano class, is a musical celebration of the four seasons using activities that build on the child's growing independence and competencies. It nurtures the children's ability to use language and capitalizes on their delight in dramatic play within the musical context.

Lessons are filled with songs, movement activities, exploration of instruments, and imaginative stories for children to make their own. Children are encouraged to use their moving, singing, verbal, and listening skills. We'll tap into the child's vivid imagination and lay the foundation for creative development via story-telling and poetry.

Intro to piano: Music Makers (4 - 7 years)

Class prerequisite Student should have completed at least one session of Cycle of Seasons.

Required:  Piano or keyboard in the home for daily practice.
Pianos require tuning within 6 months of the course.
Keyboards should have no less than 66 regular sized keys.

Your child is now ready for Music Makers Introduction to Piano. The Music Makers program includes singing, creative as well as structured movement, playing instruments and ensemble work, ear training and guided listening. This developmentally sound approach to music literacy builds symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, self expression, and the children start to work with written musical patterns as well.

Music Makers 1 - At Home In The World: Part one of this program will help the child establish a solid music foundation – tuning the voice, developing the aural skills, promoting control of gross and fine motor movements – all in the context of a variety of natural habitats. By accompanying the children as they progress from My Home Place to The Woodlands, The Cattail Marsh and finally The Meadow, the instructor will cultivate their musical skills and interest as they experience an ever-increasing repertoire of songs, stories, and poetry with children's music lesson plans. Music Makers 1 will not only establish the child's foundation for music learning through singing, moving, and playing the glockenspeil, but it will also expand his/her listening capabilities by introducing the sound of orchestral instruments, both in solo and in the context of an ensemble, build self-discipline and social skills through ensemble development, and promote independence and interdependence through dance - skills that impact all areas of academic learning.

Music Makers 2 - Around the World:  In part two of this program, children will continue singing, ear training, playing instruments, ensemble work and creative movement activities. Students explore the music of other cultures, including American-Indian, African-American, British, and German music. The lessons and activities of Music Makers 2 will enhance cultural awareness, help children develop their listening and vocal skills, move towards becoming musically literate, and gain control of their bodies. Additionally, this course accentuates higher-level skills such as symbolic thinking, concentration, memory, and self-expression skills.

Piano Class - Group lessons: Music Makers (6 - 9 years)

Class prerequisite: Student should have completed at least one session of Introduction to piano class.

This class for groups of young beginners features a variety of activities which lay the foundation for keyboard success. The program features an aural approach to music learning and teaching piano, building on songs children have come to love. This provides a natural pathway to reading music while building a much-loved piano repertoire.

Students will learn to play a repertoire of songs, develop keyboard technique, improve their aural skills, learn to compose and improvise, and become fluent music readers. In developing comprehensive musicianship at the keyboard, the children are building self discipline and cooperation, learning to multi-track and concentrate, which will help them in other areas of study.
